Year 01: A look back at the "Year of the Xuan"

well, i'll end the first half of the year 2009 with this so-called "montage" blog post, show-casing deng yun's monthly change in appearance and... weight, from the day he was borne to his 1st birthday!

Year 01: Monkey bag... and leash!

the beginning of treating deng yun like a dog is at hand! not the bad kind of way, but the worst kind! he will be subjected to a leash... in the form of a monkey's tail! don't know what i am referring to? check it out:

Year 01: More of Deng Yun walking around the flat!

yes, i know i must have mentioned that deng yun can walk a million times, but have you actually seen him walk around his new playground in the flat? here it is:

Year 01: Injection shot again @ NUH

we bought deng yun to NUH today for his scheduled injection shot. while we were waiting, ting yee and i helped assisted him to walk around the clinic:

as usual, he cried after the shot was injected, only to quiet down when he was distracted by a toy. also, he did not develop any fever!

Year 01: First time using a straw!

for the past 1 year of deng yun's life, we were feeding him mostly with the milk bottle or with a spoon. but today, we decided to let deng yun drink water using a straw:

it took a while for him to suck the water with the straw, but he did it after about 15 minutes. good boy!

Year 01: Freedom to walk around the flat

since deng yun started walking, from yesterday onwards, we have allowed him to walk around the living room, under the supervision of either ting yee or me. check out the sheer delight on his face, at the sofa:

Year 01: The Day After 1st Birthday and Father's Day!

one year ago this day:

relatives and friends came in batches to see our new born son at NUH.

today is the day after deng yun's 1st birthday! and it started out like this:

morning:

deng yun woke up. then ting yee woke up next, and she fed him cereal. i was still sleeping.

afternoon:

ting yee made fish porridge with baby carrots for deng yun for the first time! after deng yun woke up from his nap, i fed him the porridge for the first time! ting yee fell sick and rested at home instead of working.

evening:

my two aunties came over and picked us up. we then headed to Hougang Green Mall and had dinner with my parents to celebrate Father's Day. we had pepper crabs! then during and after dinner, my parents were playing with deng yun, constantly letting him ride on those coin-operated children's playing machines on the 1st floor:

Year 01: 1 year old!

one year ago this day:

deng yun emerged from ting yee's tummy and we welcomed him into this world.

today is deng yun's 1st year birthday! and it started out like this:

morning:

ting yee woke up earlier to bathe deng yun, while i was sleeping. then when i woke up, we wished deng yun a happy 1st year birthday! good morning deng yun:

afternoon:

ting yee, deng yun and i joined my parents at Hougang Mall for lunch. we walked around the shopping centre and found another coin-operated children's playing machine:

then from Hougang, ting yee, deng yun and i took the North East Line, and changed to the Circle Line for the first time, then changed to the North South Line towards Toa Payoh, where we prepared for another birthday celebration.

evening:

we had a buffet dinner at Sizzler Toa Payoh with ting yee's extended families, and another bigger birthday cake:

Year 00: The Day Before 1st Birthday!

one year ago this day:

ting yee and i were in the hospital, anxiously waiting for the arrival of our baby boy.

today is the day before deng yun's 1st birthday! and it started out like this:

morning:

ting yee brought deng yun over to the infant care centre as usual:

afternoon:

my parents, my auntie, ting yee and i went to the infant care centre and joined deng yun and his teachers and classmates to celebrate deng yun's birthday:

and celebrated with this birthday cake:

evening:

we rented a MPV and i drove everyone (my parents, my two aunties, ting yee and deng yun) to AMK Hub to have dinner at this restaurant called Dian Xiao Er, and celebrated with another birthday cake:

then all of us took a walk around AMK Hub and we found a coin-operated children's playing machine that resembled "Clifford The Red Big Dog" (a Phonics Fun Reading Program that we bought along with the $1468 educational books set back in 6 May 2009). check out his delight:

back home, i opened the card that deng yun made (with the help of his teachers) for me for Father's Day. it was the sweetest thing i received from deng yun:

Year 00: Walking around, pushing the Walk n Ride

after bringing deng yun back from the infant care, i put him in the cot and let him play the Sesame Street "Shape Sorter":

Year 00: Humpty Dumpty had a GREAT fall!

sigh... it was inevitable! deng yun fell down and hit his right cheek while he was at the infant care. check out the bruise when i brought him back home:

Year 00: Deng Yun's first shoes for actual walking and playing in the bath tub!

as deng yun was nearing his 1st birthday, he could sit up straighter and play with water more in the bath tub:

in the afternoon, we went to Kiddy Palace at Toa Payoh to buy him the first pair of shoes for actual walking since he could walk a few steps now:

Year 00: Deng Yun walking in the infant care centre!

when i picked him up today at the infant care, the teachers told me that deng yun could walk a few steps, but fell on the floor, face down. i supposed every kid will have to go through this phase in life somehow.

at dinner, my mother gave deng yun his "emperor's clothes" but they were too big for him now, except for the cap:

anyway, one more week to deng yun's 1st birthday!

Year 00: Welcome to the world, Baby Alyssa!

yes, my "old" friend Darren (he likes to refer to me as old friend... makes me feel old... hahaha!) and his wife, Hui Xian, had given birth to a beautiful baby girl at 6.27pm Singapore time today! her name is Alyssa Tan and she weighed 3.960 kg! even heavier than our son when he was borned!

while waiting for ting yee to come back from work (yes she goes to work on Sundays!), deng yun and i were in the "computer room". i was playing some nursery songs and i happened to notice that deng yun was "playing" with a chair! check it out:

Year 00: Are these alphabets?

check out deng yun and his oral hygiene:

i opened this alphabet toy and found out that i did not know which some of shapes represent which alphabet! fortunately, i had ting yee to help me determine! see closely and you will know what i mean:

or maybe you think i am stupid not to recognise them! huh? anyway, they were constructed so that the letters can be linked physically together.
